3 in a Row

Classic tic-tac-toe for fun

3-in-a-Row is the tic-tac-toe game you already know and love. It's quick to learn, easy to replay, and a great way to build connection with your clients. Here's how to get started.

Step 1: Open the game

Select a client, then find 3-in-a-Row in your game library and tap to start.

Step 2: Choose your symbols

One player is X and the other is O. Let your client pick first. It's a small choice that helps them feel in charge from the very first move.

Step 3: Decide who goes first

X usually goes first. You can switch it up each round so everyone gets a turn to lead.

Step 4: Take turns placing your symbol

On your turn, tap any empty square on the 3x3 grid to place your X or O. Then it's the other player's turn. Each player's name appears next to their symbol, and the highlighted card shows whose turn it is. Once a square is filled, it stays filled.

Step 5: Get three in a row

The first player to line up three of their symbol wins! A row can go:

  • Across, in a horizontal row
  • Up and down, in a vertical column
  • Corner to corner, along a diagonal

Step 6: Watch for a tie

If all nine squares fill up and nobody has three in a row, it's a tie. Ties happen a lot in tic-tac-toe, and that's part of the fun!

Step 7: Play again

Start a new round as many times as you like. Try swapping symbols or who goes first to keep things fresh.

Tips for using 3-in-a-Row in session

  • Practice turn-taking. Waiting for a turn is a real skill. Notice and celebrate it.
  • Talk through strategy. Ask, "What made you choose that square?" It's a gentle way to explore planning and thinking ahead.
  • Make space for big feelings. Winning, losing, and tying all bring up emotions. Try asking, "How did that round feel?"
  • Keep it light. Short rounds make it a great warm-up, a mid-session break, or a fun way to wrap up.
